154 Pass 2025 Shari’ah Special Bar Examination
MANILA — A total of 154 out of 629 candidates successfully passed the 2025 Shari’ah Special Bar Examination, sources said. This achievement highlights the dedication and expertise of examinees who took the test across four key venues.
The 2025 Shari’ah Special Bar Examination was held on May 25 and 28 at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU), and Ateneo de Zamboanga University. These locations served as the main testing centers nationwide.
Distinctive Features of the Shari’ah Special Bar Examination
The Shari’ah Special Bar Examination is a unique licensure exam focusing on Islamic Law, separate from the regular Bar Examination. It has been administered since 1983, designed to certify legal practitioners in Shari’ah jurisprudence.
This year’s exam stood out due to the innovative use of translation technology. According to local officials, the test questions were originally in English but were converted into Arabic using specialized software. Human translators then reviewed the Arabic answers by converting them back into English for accurate evaluation.
Technological Advances in Exam Process
Associate Justice Antonio Kho, Chairman of the SSBE, noted that 2025 marks the first time examinees could type their answers directly in Arabic using an Arabic keyboard. This advancement streamlined the exam process and helped maintain the integrity of answers in the original language.
Upcoming Oathtaking Ceremony
The successful examinees will take their oath during the Oathtaking and Roll Signing Ceremonies, which are scheduled for August 6, 2025, at 2 p.m. The event will be held at the Manila Hotel, providing a formal recognition of their accomplishment.
