Severe Tropical Storm Crising Impacts Calabarzon Families
LUCENA CITY—At least 1,766 families in Calabarzon have been affected by Severe Tropical Storm Crising and the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, sources said. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Region 4A reported the situation on Monday, July 21, 2025.
The affected families come from 24 local government units across the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon. These areas continue to experience heavy rains and flooding due to the combined effects of the storm and monsoon winds.
DSWD Coordinates Relief Efforts with Local Governments
Since July 19, the DSWD Field Office IV-A has deployed Quick Response Teams throughout the region. These teams work closely with provincial and municipal officials to monitor the storm’s impact and assess the needs of displaced families, especially those staying in evacuation centers run by local governments.
The agency’s continuous monitoring guides the distribution of assistance and ensures aid reaches the most affected communities promptly.
Augmentation Support Delivered to Hard-Hit Areas
Based on requests from local governments, the DSWD has released and distributed food and non-food items valued at P1.2 million. Aid has been sent to municipalities including Laurel and Tanauan City in Batangas; Silang, Magallanes, and Ternate in Cavite; Cabuyao City in Laguna; Pitogo in Quezon; and Rodriguez and Taytay in Rizal.
The DSWD-Region 4A remains ready to provide further support as needed. The agency confirmed that 69 warehouses across Calabarzon hold sufficient relief supplies, prepositioned for quick distribution to affected areas.
Preparedness and Ongoing Support
Local leaders noted that coordination between the DSWD and LGUs has been vital in responding to the disaster’s challenges. With continuous monitoring and supply management, relief efforts will adapt to evolving conditions to help displaced families recover swiftly.
