19 Cops Sacked from PNP Over Misconduct Cases
Between June 2 and July 25, nineteen police officers were dismissed from the Philippine National Police (PNP) due to misconduct, sources said. This enforcement action highlights the PNP’s ongoing commitment to discipline and accountability within its ranks.
Police Inspector General Brigido Dulay reported that these dismissals resulted from nine administrative cases resolved during the period. Among those removed, the highest rank was a police lieutenant colonel, reflecting the seriousness of the violations committed.
Additional Disciplinary Actions and Case Status
Besides the dismissals, the investigations led to the suspension of one officer and the demotion of two others. Meanwhile, nine personnel were cleared of all charges after thorough review, showing that the process ensures fairness.
Currently, 88 administrative cases are under summary hearings, 78 await formal charges, and 33 are still being evaluated. Altogether, these unresolved cases involve 766 police officers, indicating a broad scope of ongoing disciplinary scrutiny.
Nature of the Offenses and Leadership’s Resolve
The officers faced various administrative charges, primarily grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer. However, detailed specifics about each case have yet to be disclosed.
The Internal Affairs Service (IAS) has not provided a detailed breakdown of the ranks involved beyond the highest-ranking dismissed officer. Still, the resolve to maintain a disciplined force remains clear.
“This is already a challenge and is based on our Chief PNP’s directive for there to be a disciplined police force and to speed up the resolution of administrative cases,” Dulay emphasized.
