2025 Midterm Elections Reflect on National Priorities

Reflection on the 2025 Midterm Elections

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. shared his thoughts on the 2025 midterm election results during a thanksgiving event in Mandaluyong City. He acknowledged the mixed outcomes but remained hopeful, saying, “We all wish we had better results, but, you know, we live to fight another day.” This statement highlights the resilience needed as the country moves forward from the recent electoral process.

The 2025 midterm elections brought a new group of senators to office, with half of the 12 winning candidates endorsed by the administration’s coalition, Alyansa. Among those confirmed were Erwin Tulfo, Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Pia Cayetano, Camille Villar, and Lito Lapid.

Notable Election Outcomes and Political Shifts

Interestingly, Senator Imee Marcos, the president’s sister who was reelected, was initially included in the administration’s slate. However, she was later removed following her investigation into the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant against former President Rodrigo Duterte regarding the war on drugs. This move signaled some political distancing within the ruling coalition.

Other key figures who secured seats include Duterte allies such as Bong Go, Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, and Rodante Marcoleta. The list of winners also featured prominent opposition names like Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan and Bam Aquino, reflecting a diverse Senate composition.

Focusing on Developmental Issues After Elections

With the 2025 midterm elections behind them, President Marcos urged all political actors to put aside partisan conflicts. He emphasized the need to shift attention toward pressing national concerns rather than election-related controversies. “But now it’s time, I think, to put all the politics aside. It’s time to put all of the issues that we raised during the election [aside] and only talk about not political issues but developmental issues, healthcare issues, education issues, agricultural issues, supply issues, all of these things,” he stated.

This call to prioritize the country’s growth and welfare over politics resonates strongly amid ongoing challenges in healthcare, education, agriculture, and supply chains. It suggests a hopeful direction for governance as the new Senate begins its term.

Looking Ahead Beyond the 2025 Midterm Elections

As the nation transitions from the 2025 midterm elections, the president’s message serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and focus on common goals. The election results, while not flawless, provide a foundation upon which the government can build solutions for the Filipino people’s immediate and long-term needs.

Moving forward, it will be crucial for elected officials to collaborate beyond party lines and deliver on promises that address developmental issues. Only by doing so can the country truly progress and meet the aspirations of its citizens.
