Voting Period for 2025 National and Local Elections Begins

The voting period for the 2025 national and local elections has officially started, with over 68 million Filipinos in the country expected to visit their assigned precincts to exercise their right to vote. Early voting is allowed for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and pregnant women starting at 5 a.m., while regular voting hours will run from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

There are a total of 69,673,655 registered voters for the 2025 midterm elections. Out of these, 68,431,965 are registered voters living in the Philippines, and 1,241,690 are overseas voters.

Overseas and Absentee Voting Details

Overseas voters were given the opportunity to cast their ballots from April 13 to May 12. Meanwhile, local absentee voters were allowed to vote from April 28 to 30. To support voter participation, Malacañang has declared May 12, Election Day, as a special non-working holiday, enabling Filipinos to fully exercise their voting rights without work-related interruptions.

Comelec and PNP Prepare for Peaceful Elections

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has expressed confidence that the 2025 national and local elections will proceed peacefully and orderly. As of May 11, election eve, the Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed that strict security measures remain in place to ensure a safe voting environment. Fortunately, no serious threats have been reported in the days leading up to Election Day.

Seats Up for Grabs in 2025 National and Local Elections

This year, a total of 18,320 seats will be contested nationwide. At the national level, voters will elect 12 senators, 63 party-list representatives, and 254 district representatives in the House.

On the local level, there are 82 positions for governors and vice-governors, 840 for Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, 149 for city mayors and vice-mayors, and 1,493 for municipal mayors and vice-mayors. Additionally, voters will choose 1,690 Sangguniang Panglungsod members and 11,948 Sangguniang Bayan members.
