Repeat Offender Arrested for Cellphone Theft in Makati
A 22-year-old pedicab driver was caught stealing a cellphone in Barangay San Isidro, Makati City on June 12. The young suspect, recently released from prison, once again landed behind bars for his crime. Authorities identified him as Oliver, a resident of Maricaban, Pasay City.
Local police sources revealed that Oliver has a history of offenses, including robbery, illegal gambling, and drug-related crimes. He was previously detained twice by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in 2021 and 2024 for similar violations.
Swift Police Response Leads to Arrest
Makati Police Sub-station 3 officers were on a routine patrol when they noticed Oliver running along Batangas Street towards Buendia Avenue. The victim was shouting loudly, “Pulis! Pulis! Tulong! Yung magnanakaw naka-itim na damit tumatakbo, dala ‘yung cellphone ko,” which prompted the officers to chase after the suspect.
Oliver tried to escape by climbing over a fence into an empty lot in Barangay Palanan. However, the police intercepted and apprehended him before he could get away. They recovered the stolen cellphone valued at P7,000.
Details of the Theft and Charges
According to the victim, Oliver broke the lower right side of the barracks’ main gate to enter and stole the cellphone while the victim was asleep. The suspect now faces charges for robbery under Article 293 of the Revised Penal Code.
Makati Police Chief Col. Jean Dela Torre commended the officers for their quick and decisive action. She emphasized the city’s firm stance against street crimes and repeat offenders, stating, “Our patrol teams remain ever-vigilant, and this arrest highlights the importance of police visibility and community cooperation.”
She added, “We will continue to pursue and hold accountable those who repeatedly violate the law and endanger the safety of our citizens.”
