2nd Air Force Wing Reserve Leads Massive Flood Relief

BULACAN, Philippines — The 2nd Air Force Wing Reserve swiftly launched a large-scale humanitarian relief operation in response to severe flooding in Bulacan. Under Lt. Col. Mikee Romero’s leadership, the 2nd Air Force Wing Reserve has been rescuing and assisting thousands of displaced families in the hardest-hit areas.

The relief efforts evacuated over 7,500 people, including about 1,500 families from Calumpit and 300 families from Hagonoy, using military 6×6 trucks. Many evacuees now find shelter in Calumpit National High School and other designated centers. In Hagonoy, flooding in Barangays San Juan and San Isidro forced full-scale relocation and rescue actions.

Coordinated Relief Efforts in Flooded Bulacan

Operations are managed by the 2nd Air Force Reserve Center based at Clark Airbase. Col. Mark Yambing, a Philippine Military Academy graduate, oversees the mission, deploying additional 6×6 Air Force trucks to strengthen ground rescue teams. Local command is led by Reservist Major Rolando Rodolfo at the Bulacan Air Force Command Post.

These rescue efforts work closely with local governments, including Calumpit Mayor Glorime “Lem” Faustino and Hagonoy officials, who coordinated evacuation and logistics. National agencies such as the Department of Education and the Department of Social Welfare and Development provide critical support with shelter and welfare services.

Distribution of Essential Supplies

Relief packs containing rice, canned sardines, instant noodles, and coffee were distributed to evacuees. Reservists, volunteers, and local government workers ensured that families received these vital supplies promptly. Lt. Col. Romero, also chairman of the Association of Reservists and Reservist Administrators of the Philippines, stressed that the mission continues with ongoing supply deliveries and area monitoring.

He highlighted the urgent need for medicines and medical supplies, coordinating with health partners to address these gaps. On social media, Romero encouraged his team: “Laban lang hanggang matapos ang mission,” praising their courage and dedication.

Flood Impact and Ongoing Response

Hagonoy, a coastal municipality along Manila Bay, faces repeated flood risks due to its low-lying geography. The town’s aquaculture industry, including milkfish, shrimp, and crabs, suffers from the widespread displacement and damage. Other provinces in Central Luzon and Calabarzon, such as Cavite, Rizal, and Pampanga, also experience severe flooding and landslides caused by the southwest monsoon and Tropical Storm Crising.

The 2nd Air Force Wing Reserve, together with the Air Force Reserve Center, local governments, and national agencies, continues to deploy resources and personnel. Their combined efforts aim to provide sustained humanitarian aid and assist communities most affected by the calamity.
