305 DOH-Designated HIV Care Facilities Boost Access
Persons living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHIV) now have access to vital medical services through 305 DOH-designated HIV care facilities and treatment hubs across the Philippines. This initiative forms a key part of the Department of Health’s (DOH) efforts during the National HIV Awareness Month campaign.
According to a recent DOH circular, these facilities include 176 treatment hubs and 129 primary HIV care centers. Together, they provide comprehensive care and support to those affected by HIV.
Young Adults Most Affected, Latest Data Shows
Data from the DOH’s HIV and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome Surveillance Report for the first quarter of 2025 reveals that half of the newly diagnosed HIV cases are among individuals aged 25 to 34. This highlights the urgent need for targeted awareness and intervention programs.
Between January and March 2025, the DOH recorded 5,101 new HIV diagnoses. On average, 57 new cases were confirmed daily during this period, signaling a continuing public health challenge.
Expanded Network to Support PLHIV Nationwide
These 305 DOH-designated HIV care facilities serve as critical points of access for medical treatment, counseling, and support services. Local health officials emphasized the importance of expanding such networks to reach more Filipinos in need.
By increasing the number of treatment hubs and primary care centers, the DOH aims to improve health outcomes and reduce new infections. This strategy also aligns with global efforts to combat HIV and AIDS.
