3,364 Applicants Hired On Spot During Job Fairs Nationwide
In celebration of the 127th Philippine Independence Day, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) successfully hired 3,364 applicants on the spot during job fairs held across the country. This significant achievement highlights the impact of the nationwide job fairs, which drew 25,876 job seekers to 50 locations set up by DOLE’s regional offices alongside Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs).
The 3,364 applicants hired on spot were selected from a pool of eager candidates who registered to access numerous job openings. Local leaders noted that 1,573 employers participated in the event, collectively offering 153,187 job vacancies both locally and overseas. These high-demand positions included roles such as cashier, service crew, production operator, ESL teacher, bagger, sales associate, clerk, loan officer, and store clerk.
Near-Hires and Qualified Applicants
Aside from those hired immediately, 4,676 applicants were classified as near-hires, awaiting final interviews or the submission of necessary documents. Meanwhile, 21,419 candidates were assessed as qualified for the jobs on offer. Sources said this initiative aligns with the current administration’s goal to broaden employment opportunities, especially for first-time job seekers and vulnerable groups.
Among those hired on the spot were 274 senior high school graduates, one person with a disability, 10 beneficiaries of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program, 55 interns from private companies, and 37 Government Internship Program (GIP) participants.
Government Services Complement Job Fairs
Beyond job placement, the fairs also served as a one-stop shop where applicants could receive government services to help them secure pre-employment requirements. Additionally, the events offered access to livelihood assistance and skills training programs. DOLE reported that 1,150 individuals received career guidance, while 940 expressed interest in skills development opportunities.
Furthermore, 323 attendees availed themselves of livelihood support, and 79 explored entrepreneurship programs. Notably, 9,142 people accessed frontline services from agencies such as Pag-IBIG Fund, Social Security System (SSS), and PhilHealth, providing a comprehensive support system for job seekers.
Looking Ahead: Follow-Up Job Fair
The labor department is still verifying final numbers and expects the count of hired applicants to rise as regional reports are finalized. A follow-up job fair is planned for June 19 at Ayala Malls Circuit Makati, promising more opportunities for Filipinos seeking employment.
