39 Chinese Nationals Arrested for Illegal Working in BGC

Thirty-nine Chinese nationals were recently arrested for illegally working in a telecommunications company located in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City. The Bureau of Immigration (BI) confirmed the arrest and said these individuals will be deported soon. This crackdown highlights the bureau’s strict enforcement against unauthorized employment.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado stated that the arrests took place on May 29 during a coordinated operation between the bureau’s Intelligence Division and the Philippine National Police-Southern Police District. The exact telecommunications company involved was not disclosed by authorities, and the identities of those arrested remain confidential.

Details of the Arrest and Legal Violations

According to sources, the arrested Chinese nationals failed to present valid travel documents during the raid, classifying them as undocumented aliens under Philippine law. Although these individuals held working visas, investigations revealed that their permits were issued for employment with a different company. This constitutes a breach of visa conditions and Philippine immigration regulations.

The Bureau of Immigration emphasized that such violations threaten national security and degrade the integrity of the immigration system. The detainees are currently held at the BI facility in Taguig City, awaiting deportation procedures.

Warnings and Reminders to Foreign Workers

Commissioner Viado underscored the importance of compliance with Philippine laws for all foreign workers. He stated, “This operation sends a strong message: the BI will not tolerate violations that threaten our national security and undermine our immigration system.”

He also warned foreigners aiming to work in the country to strictly follow all legal processes. “Those who enter under false pretenses or who switch employers without proper authorization will face the full force of the law,” he added.

This recent operation reaffirms the government’s commitment to safeguard legal employment and immigration standards in the Philippines.
