Four jail officers were honored for their bravery on Wednesday following their ambush while transporting a Chinese person deprived of liberty (PDL) enroute to Parañaque City last April 7.
In a statement, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology chief Ruel Rivera awarded the four personnel with the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting and Medalya ng Kagalingan.
“Ang kanilang mabilis at mahusay na tugon ay sumasalamin ng kanilang katapangan, propesyonalismo, at tunay na serbisyo-publiko,” said Rivera in a statement.
(Their fast and effective response reflects their bravery, professionalism, and genuine public service.)
The jail officers were transporting 37-year-old PDL Hu Yang to its facility in Barangay La Huerta in Parañaque after a court hearing in Makati City when two vehicles blocked their path and fired shots at them.
The jail officers, with the help of Parañaque police, retaliated and hit one of the suspects’ vehicles. The black MPV crashed into a tree at the Las Piñas–Parañaque Wetland Park while a black sedan tried to flee. The six suspects were arrested.
