8 Percent Increase in Passenger Arrivals Highlights Tourism Growth
From January to June this year, the Philippines saw an 8 percent increase in passenger arrivals at its ports of entry compared to the same period last year. This notable rise reflects the steady growth of Philippine tourism, sources said.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported processing a total of 7,840,728 arrivals in the first half of the year, exceeding the 7,268,465 arrivals recorded in the previous year. This increase signals the country’s growing appeal as a top travel destination in the region.
Top Countries Driving Passenger Arrivals
Travelers from the United States led the arrivals with 753,544 visitors, closely followed by South Korea at 745,623. Japan contributed 256,776 visitors, China 229,915, and Australia 188,082. These figures underscore strong international interest and confidence in the Philippines as a preferred destination.
Efficient Immigration Services Support Tourism Momentum
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized that the consistent growth in arrivals is a testament to the Philippines’ position as a key destination in the region. “This steady growth is proof that the Philippines remains a top destination in the region,” Viado said.
He added that the Bureau of Immigration takes pride in supporting this momentum by delivering efficient and secure immigration processing for all travelers. “It follows the many wins of the national government, which the President is set to share with the nation today,” Viado noted.
Commitment to Enhance Visitor Experience
Viado also pledged the bureau’s continued efforts to improve services in collaboration with other government agencies. These enhancements aim to make the Philippines even more attractive to international visitors and sustain tourism growth.
“We will continue to implement more improvements together with other government agencies to ensure a welcoming and seamless experience for every traveler,” he said.
