91 Arrested in 63 Anti-Drug Operations Last Week

Authorities Intensify Anti-Drug Operations Nationwide

Last week, authorities intensified the anti-drug campaign, leading to 91 arrests across 63 anti-drug operations. These efforts, driven by the four-word keyphrase anti-drug operations last week, reflect the government’s commitment to protect Filipinos from illegal drugs.

Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized the operations’ broad scope. “Target ng mga operasyong ito, hindi lamang ang malalaking drug syndicates kundi pati na rin ang small-scale peddlers at drug dens na patuloy na nambibiktima ng mga Pilipino,” she said. The crackdown focuses on dismantling large drug syndicates, small-time dealers, and drug dens harming communities.

Details of the Operations and Arrests

Data from government sources revealed that the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) spearheaded 44 buy-busts, seven marijuana eradication missions, seven search and seizure raids, and five interdiction efforts. Those arrested included 41 alleged drug pushers, 27 individuals caught inside drug dens, 12 drug den operators, five employees, two possessors, one courier, and one importer.

President Marcos has continuously emphasized a humane and rules-based approach to the anti-drug campaign. Newly appointed Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Nicolas Torre III reinforced this message to police officers, saying, “Huli, hindi patay.” Arrests, not killings, remain the focus.

Lawful Conduct and Aggressive Pursuit of Drug Offenders

President Marcos instructed General Torre to sustain the government’s anti-illegal drug operations with vigorous action against all drug offenders. “Magsagawa pa rin tayo ng drug seizures at tiyakin na sasampahan ng kaso ang mga drug dealer at ang mga drug lord,” the President said. He added that even small-time dealers are not to be spared: “Kahit ang small-time na mga drug dealers ay wala ring ligtas.”

The President also urged close coordination between the police and PDEA and stressed the importance of monitoring vulnerable communities to prevent drug activities.

PNP’s Commitment to Justice and Rehabilitation

During a Malacañang briefing, General Torre ordered PNP personnel to arrest offenders, file strong cases, and work with prosecutors to ensure those responsible face justice. He also acknowledged the importance of rehabilitation programs to address drug addiction’s root causes.

Families and individuals involved in drugs are encouraged to seek help voluntarily, with the PNP assuring support throughout the rehabilitation process. This holistic approach aims to complement law enforcement efforts and promote lasting change.
