Manila archdiocese releases Holy Week, Easter Triduum rites

The Archdiocese of Manila on Wednesday released this year’s copy of the Holy Week and Easter Triduum rites.

Prepared by the Manila Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission, the Holy Week and Easter Triduum rites can be accessed through this link.

“May our communities be nourished and enriched by the solemn and meaningful commemoration of the Paschal Mystery,” the Manila archdiocese said in a Facebook post.

Commemorating the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem, Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week.

Meanwhile, Paschal Triduum or Easter Triduum is a three-day commemoration of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

It marks the end of the Lenten Season and leads to the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil.

According to Cotabato Archbishop Emeritus Orlando Cardinal Quevedo, Paschal Triduum celebrates the Last Supper on Holy Thursday, the Passion and Death of Christ on Good Friday, and the Resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday.

He said the Paschal Triduum is celebrated in four days because, during Jesus’s time, a day was determined from sunset to sunset.

“Thus, the first day of the Holy Triduum is from sunset of Holy Thursday to sunset of Good Friday. The second day is from sunset of Good Friday to sunset of Holy Saturday. And the third day is from sunset of Holy Saturday to sunset of Easter Sunday,” he said. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
