Road accidents trigger gridlock along SLEX

Several road accidents caused heavy traffic along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) on Holy Wednesday.

According to Mark Slazara’s report on “24 Oras,” traffic slowed down due to the road widening project along the San Juan viaduct, southbound before the Calamba exit.

At 3 p.m., a four vehicle smash-up resulted in a kilometer-long traffic jam. Authorities said this is the sixth incident in the area.

In the same location, a bus and a closed van collided.

(Motorists should check the condition of their vehicles because a number of stalled vehicles were caused by flat tires and overheated engines. For safety, avoid tailgating and maintain a safe distance. Avoid swerving when approaching the exit, since it causes many accidents.)

Authorities were able to immediately respond to the road accidents as motorists dialed the following hotlines:

SLEX emergency hotline (632) 8584 4688
Skyway emergency hotline 09175398762
Startoll emergency hotline 09175117627

There were fewer vehicles observed in SLEX, Skyway, and Startoll on Holy Wednesday since vehicles started traveling last weekend.

(Supposedly, we’re expecting a big volume of cars, but since motorists started traveling last Friday and Saturday, we are experiencing light traffic.)

As of Wednesday evening, vehicles travel about 20 to 30 kilometers along the Silangan-Calamba exit and the Eton-Cabuyao exit.

Motorists were reminded to check their vehicles’ battery, lights, oil, water, brakes, air, gas, engine, tires, and self, and to pray for safe travels. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
