AboitizPower Commits to Engineering Scholarships in Bataan
BALANGA CITY, Bataan — Aboitiz Power Corp. recently signed a five-year Memorandum of Agreement with Bataan’s provincial government to offer scholarships for students pursuing engineering. This initiative highlights the importance of engineering education in supporting the province’s infrastructure and technological growth.
Under the agreement, AboitizPower, through its partners GNPower Mariveles Energy Center and GNPower Dinginin, will establish an educational assistance fund. They plan to contribute PHP 2 million annually for five years, totaling PHP 10 million, beginning this April. This fund aims to benefit 200 students from Bataan Peninsula State University-Main Campus and Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Mariveles.
According to local officials, this partnership brings the province closer to its goal of building a skilled and progressive community. “We express our deepest gratitude to AboitizPower for their unwavering partnership with our provincial government,” said Governor Joet Garcia. “Through their support, we are getting closer to our dream of building a strong, capable, and progressive Bataeño family — with quality education as the foundation for a brighter future.”
Supporting Scholars to Build a Brighter Future
The scholarship program is part of GNPower’s broader P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S. initiative, specifically under the “E” component, which stands for Elevate Educational Opportunities. It also complements Bataan’s expanded “Iskolar ng Bayan” program, designed to help deserving students access quality education.
An official from AboitizPower’s Transition Business Group shared, “Our advocacy in education is not new. I’m particularly proud of what they’ve done in AboitizPower-North Luzon for supporting more than 200 scholars so far. But these aren’t just numbers on a page, these are stories of transformation. We’ve witnessed firsthand the immense pride, the profound impact of investing in education.”
Since 2015, GNPower Mariveles has supported 206 scholars in the two universities, with 50 already graduating. GNPower Dinginin joined the scholarship program in 2023. This new MOA signing will add 200 more scholars to the existing beneficiaries.
Voices from Beneficiaries
Rainiel Salandanan, a student from Bataan Peninsula State University, expressed how the program has eased financial burdens. “Malaking tulong po sa akin yung ‘Iskolar ng Bataan’ kasi natutugunan niya po yung mga tustusin ko since I have a solo parent po. Kaya hindi ko na po kailangan manghingi sa magulang ko, atsaka hindi na po niya kailangan intindihin yung ibang pangangailangan ko.” This support allows students like Rainiel to focus more on their studies without worrying about expenses.
