Abra Election Results Highlight Family Political Presence
The brother and niece of Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin have secured top leadership roles in Abra’s recent elections. Eustaquio “Takit” Bersamin was proclaimed governor, while Anne Bersamin, his niece, was elected vice governor. This outcome reflects the strong political influence of the Bersamin family in the province.
Together, they defeated the mother-and-son candidates, Joy Bernos and Kiko Bernos, who ran for vice governor and governor respectively. Meanwhile, La Paz town Mayor Joseph “JB” Bernos, allied with the Bersamins, won the congressional seat for Abra’s lone district.
Leveraging Political Connections for Abra’s Growth
JB Bernos expressed his commitment to advancing Abra’s development, emphasizing the advantage of having close ties to the national government. “The brother of the newly proclaimed governor, the executive secretary… Sasamantalahin natin yung presence niya sa palasyo para we can make reality yung mga dreams and aspirations natin to bring different kinds of industries in Abra,” he said.
This statement underscores the plan to utilize the executive secretary’s position to attract various industries and investments, aiming to boost economic growth in Abra.
Abra Election Results Ensure Peaceful Voting Process
Despite a shooting incident at a Bangued voting center on Monday, the Abra Police declared the 2025 elections in the province as generally peaceful. The voter turnout was notably high at 91%, with nine out of every ten registered voters participating in the polls.
Such a strong voter turnout signals the active engagement of Abra’s citizens in shaping their local government leadership.
