Notorious Abu Sayyaf Group Member Apprehended in Zamboanga City
Authorities have apprehended a notorious Abu Sayyaf Group member in Zamboanga City on Saturday, May 31. The arrest of Isnaji Jundam Hasim, 34, marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
Reports indicate that Hasim is a known supporter of ASG leader Ibni Acosta. Hasim’s arrest was linked to multiple serious crimes, including involvement in high-profile abductions and murders.
Criminal Activities and Charges Against Hasim
Among the crimes Hasim is accused of are the massacre of eight fishermen on Siromon Island in Barangay Dita in January 2019 and the killing of a couple in Barangay Buenavista, Zamboanga City, in 2023. Additionally, he is implicated in the abduction of Chinese nationals Jian Luo and Jampong Linyuan in June 2024 in Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Moreover, Hasim allegedly took part in the 2009 abduction and decapitation of Doroteo Gonzales in Zamboanga City. Local experts have linked him to numerous military encounters in Basilan and activities involving gunrunning and illegal drug trade.
Seizure of Weapons and Ongoing Investigations
Authorities recovered high-powered firearms and explosives from Hasim’s residence, further strengthening the case against him. He now faces charges including murder, kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms, and involvement in illegal drug activities.
Community leaders said this arrest is a key step in dismantling the Abu Sayyaf Group’s network in the region. Efforts to bring justice to victims and restore peace continue as investigations progress.
