Education Secretary Sonny Angara warmly welcomed the recent approval of a P2,000 across-the-board hike on the compensation of teachers and other poll workers for Eleksyon 2025. This increase reflects the government’s recognition of their vital contributions during elections.
Angara expressed his gratitude to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman for their quick response in raising the election allowances for electoral board members. “Our teachers face responsibility and risk every election. They deserve this compensation for going above and beyond classroom duties,” he said, underscoring the essential role educators play in safeguarding the democratic process.
Across-the-board hike boosts election pay
The Department of Education (DepEd) chief also extended thanks to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), hoping that the increased allowances will be distributed efficiently and promptly. “Our teachers deserve our urgency,” Angara added.
According to DepEd, a total of 281,587 personnel will benefit from this pay hike, which covers not only honoraria but also miscellaneous allowances and service credits.
New honoraria rates for Eleksyon 2025 poll workers
- Chairperson: P12,000, up from P10,000
- Poll clerk: P11,000, increased from P9,000
- Third member: P11,000, raised from P9,000
- Support staff: P8,000, up from P6,000
This across-the-board hike aims to fairly compensate those who dedicate time and effort to ensure free and fair elections. Many of these workers, especially teachers, take on significant responsibilities beyond their regular duties.
