The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) beefs up security in Sulu Basilan ahead of Eleksyon 2025 by intensifying operations across these provinces. This move aims to guarantee a peaceful, orderly, and honest election process.
AFP units, including the 11th Infantry “Alakdan” Division and Joint Task Force Orion, have heightened their vigilance. They are ready to respond decisively to any threats from land, sea, or air that could disrupt the elections.
AFP beefs up security: Coordinated preparations for Eleksyon 2025
In close collaboration with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Sulu and Basilan, the AFP has held several coordination meetings and joint planning sessions with various law enforcement agencies. These efforts focus on finalizing deployment plans and boosting operational readiness, especially in areas known as election hotspots.
Major General Leonardo Peña, commander of the 11th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Orion, emphasized, “Our forces are in full security posture. Our land, maritime, and aerial capabilities are fully deployed and mission-ready to counter any disruption before, during, and after election day.”
AFP beefs up security: Maritime and ground operations intensified
Part of the intensified maritime security includes deploying the BRP General Mariano Alvarez (PS176), a fast attack interdiction craft, to patrol waters within the 11th Infantry Division’s operational area. This warship, under Joint Task Force Orion, boosts naval presence and deters threats in the surrounding seas.
On land, infantry brigades 1101st, 1102nd, 1103rd, and 101st, along with their battalions, have been strategically stationed across key municipalities in both Sulu and Basilan. These deployments aim to maintain peace and order during the election period.
AFP beefs up security: Aerial and coast guard support
The AFP has also strengthened maritime patrols in close coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard. Meanwhile, the Philippine Air Force stands ready with aerial patrols to provide rapid response if necessary.
Joint send-off ceremonies recently took place, where personnel from Joint Task Force Orion, the Philippine National Police, and the Philippine Coast Guard were formally dispatched to their respective posts. This show of unity underscores the government’s commitment to safeguard voters and uphold democratic processes.
With these comprehensive security measures, government forces remain alert and determined to protect the sanctity of every vote and ensure peace for all residents of Sulu and Basilan throughout Eleksyon 2025.
