Afternoon Classes Suspended in Several NCR Areas
Several parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) suspended afternoon classes on Monday, July 21, as the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat, brought heavy rains and strong winds. The afternoon classes suspension affected both public and private schools across multiple cities.
Local officials confirmed afternoon classes suspended in San Juan City, Paraaque City, Taguig City, Makati City, Pasay City, Caloocan City, Manila City, Muntinlupa City, Marikina City, Mandaluyong City, Las Pias City, Pateros, and Pasig City. The suspensions covered various educational levels, from daycare and preschool to Senior High School, including Alternative Learning System programs.
Specific Areas and Classes Affected
San Juan and Paraaque suspended all levels of classes in both public and private schools. Taguig halted face-to-face sessions at all levels, while Makati cancelled classes from daycare up to Senior High School.
Pasay, Caloocan, and Marikina also suspended all levels of classes. Manila City stopped face-to-face classes starting at noon. Muntinlupa included Alternative Learning System and Early Childhood Education in its suspension. Mandaluyong paused classes from preschool through Senior High School.
By 10 a.m., Las Pias and Pateros followed suit, suspending classes for all levels and up to Senior High School respectively. Earlier at 8 a.m., Pasig City suspended face-to-face classes from kindergarten to Senior High School, including Early Childhood Care Development and the Alternative Learning System.
Weather Update and Outlook
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that as of 8 a.m., a low-pressure area (LPA) was located approximately 950 kilometers east-northeast of Eastern Visayas. The agency noted the LPA has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
The southwest monsoon continues to bring heavy rainfall across Metro Manila and nearby provinces, prompting authorities to prioritize public safety and suspend face-to-face classes in affected areas.
