Nationwide Rollout of AI-Powered Voice-to-Text Transcription Platform
Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered voice-to-text transcription platform will be implemented in all courts across the country this year following a successful one-year pilot program. Reports indicate that the judiciary is now procuring licenses to fully deploy this AI transcription platform at every level of the court system.
During a recent convention of court stenographers in Tagaytay City, local experts shared that the AI tools were tested extensively in the Sandiganbayan, 41 city and municipal courts, and several regional trial courts nationwide. The use of this AI-powered voice-to-text transcription platform, specifically the software known as Scriptix, has significantly accelerated court proceedings.
Efficiency Gains and Improved Accuracy
Participating courts experienced an average 50 percent reduction in transcription time, with some courts reporting improvements of up to 80 percent. This translated to faster delivery of court transcripts and allowed court personnel to focus on more substantive judicial work. Moreover, as court staff continued to use the system, its accuracy improved dramatically—from 70 percent initially to as high as 95 percent.
Importantly, the AI platform has grown increasingly adept at handling “Taglish,” the common blend of Tagalog and English spoken in many courtrooms. This capability enhances transcription quality and ensures transcripts reflect the actual courtroom dialogue with greater precision.
Supporting Court Stenographers Amid Digital Transformation
Despite technological advances, court stenographers remain essential to the judiciary’s modernization efforts. Experts emphasize that AI transcription platforms are designed to support, not replace, stenographers. As one official noted, “Real-time transcription technologies, AI-driven tools, and digital systems are best viewed as complementary instruments, not replacements, which will enable you to meet the growing demands of our courts while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and reliability.”
Court stenographers are recognized as “the memory of the courtroom,” and as courts evolve, they must be equipped with better tools and training to keep pace with these changes.
Professional Development and Training Initiatives
The judiciary continues to invest in stenographers’ education through partnerships with academic institutions and professional organizations. Across regions, stenographers actively participate in specialized training, conventions, and workshops that help enhance their skills and adaptability.
The recent two-day convention featured sessions on courtroom procedures, personnel policies, and the proposed Code of Judicial Conduct for court personnel. Key speakers also discussed judicial innovations and the court’s strategic plans for technology integration.
International Perspectives and Future Outlook
The event included insights from international experts in media accessibility, highlighting the global trend toward digital court modernization. The judiciary’s commitment to innovation aims to balance technological progress with human expertise, ensuring fair and efficient justice delivery.
