Air and Sea Travel Suspended in Bicol Amid Crising Threat
LEGAZPI CITY, Camarines Sur — Air and sea travel in parts of Bicol were suspended on Thursday due to the looming danger posed by Tropical Depression Crising and the southwest monsoon. Authorities issued warnings as weather conditions worsened, prompting the cancellation of flights and vessel trips.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Bicol announced that six flights were canceled across airports in Masbate City, Naga City, and Virac due to severe weather. These cancellations affected a total of 516 passengers traveling on routes from Masbate to Clark Airport, Naga to Manila, and Virac to Manila. Airlines involved included CEBGO, INC. and Cebu Pacific Air.
Flight Suspensions Impact Hundreds of Passengers
Passengers on both domestic and regional flights faced delays and cancellations as the authorities prioritized safety. The CAAP’s advisory emphasized that the suspension was necessary given the unpredictable weather and potential hazards from Tropical Depression Crising combined with the southwest monsoon.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Sorsogon also took precautionary measures by suspending sea travel. All trips involving vessels and watercraft weighing three gross tonnes or less were halted. Larger ships were alerted to brace for rough seas and possible big waves, increasing the risk for maritime travel.
Coast Guard Halts Sea Travel Due to Rough Seas
The PCG’s suspension aims to prevent maritime accidents in the province amid the forecast of turbulent sea conditions. Local officials urged travelers to stay updated and avoid unnecessary trips until the weather stabilizes.
Despite the inconvenience, residents and travelers in the Bicol region understood the precautionary measures. “Mas importante ang kaligtasan kaysa biyahe,” said a local commuter, echoing the sentiment that safety must come first.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as conditions evolve. The combined threats of Tropical Depression Crising and the southwest monsoon remain a serious concern for transportation in the region.
