Airport Personnel Caught Extorting Foreign Passenger at NAIA
Two female airport personnel were caught extorting money from a foreign traveler during a carefully planned entrapment at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1. The incident involved a female Chinese national, who was allegedly asked to pay a large sum in exchange for protection against deportation.
According to local authorities, the two airport workers demanded P850,000 from the Chinese woman. They claimed the payment would prevent her and her recently arrived nephew from being deported. However, after negotiations, the amount was lowered to P400,000. The victim reported the incident to airport police, prompting immediate action.
Swift Arrest and Investigation
Col. Bing Jose, the Airport Police Chief, confirmed the arrests of the two female personnel. He shared that the entrapment operation was conducted after the victim’s report, leading to their prompt detention. The arrested individuals are now facing charges related to extortion.
Jose emphasized that authorities are preparing the necessary legal documents to prosecute the suspects. This case highlights the ongoing efforts to maintain integrity within the airport and protect travelers from corrupt practices.
Protecting Travelers from Corruption
This incident sheds light on the challenges travelers face, even within regulated environments like NAIA. Authorities continue to strengthen measures to prevent such abuses and ensure the safety and rights of foreign nationals entering the country.
