Shock in Aklan town continues to ripple through Ibajay after municipal Councilor Mihrel Senatin fatally shot Vice Mayor Julio Estolloso inside the latter’s office early Friday morning. The violent act stunned local residents and officials alike, raising urgent questions about the motive behind this tragic event.
According to local sources, Councilor Senatin, who is serving his last term on the town council, arrived at the municipal session hall around 9:15 a.m. He initially requested copies of council measures before heading to Vice Mayor Estolloso’s office. Eyewitnesses recalled hearing Senatin ask, “Vice, ano sala ko sa imo?” before suddenly drawing a 9 mm pistol and firing multiple shots.
Details of the Shooting Incident
The councilor fired six to seven rounds at Estolloso, who was seated at the time. Emergency responders rushed the 50-year-old vice mayor to Ibajay District Hospital. Sadly, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Among the fatal wounds was a gunshot to the left side of his chest, directly impacting his heart.
Senatin was immediately detained by authorities, who confiscated the weapon used in the shooting. Police continue to investigate, but no clear political motive has surfaced as both officials belonged to the same party.
Possible Motive and Aftermath
While official investigators have not confirmed the reason behind the shooting, rumors of a personal conflict between Senatin and Estolloso circulated among townspeople. The police chief noted that no political rivalry appeared to have provoked the attack.
Following the incident, municipal hall operations were suspended as the community grapples with the shock. Local leaders and residents mourn the loss of a public servant and seek answers to prevent further violence.
