Fire Hits Alimodian National Comprehensive High School
The Alimodian National Comprehensive High School in Iloilo suffered significant damage after a fire broke out early Monday, June 2. The fire, which started around 3:45 a.m., severely affected multiple buildings across the campus. Local leaders noted that the fire damaged five classrooms, the school canteen, clinic, band room, supply room, TLE office, and MAPEH office.
Wooden Structures Fuel Fire Devastation
According to the school principal, Romar Cubin, most of the affected rooms were located in the old part of the school near the quadrangle. Cubin explained that these buildings were primarily made of wood and other light materials, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. The Department of Education’s initial report confirmed the extent of the damage, highlighting the challenges the school now faces.
Investigation Points to Electrical Cause
The Bureau of Fire Protection’s preliminary investigation suggests that the fire may have been electrical in origin. Authorities continue to assess the situation to prevent similar incidents in the future. Meanwhile, the local government unit of Alimodian has pledged support to help the school recover from the disaster.
Mayor Ian Kenneth Alfeche assured the community that they are working closely with the Department of Education’s Iloilo division. The collaboration aims to set up temporary classrooms inside the school gymnasium. This measure is crucial as the new academic year is scheduled to begin on June 16.
Community Rallies for School Recovery
The swift response from local officials and education authorities reflects a strong commitment to ensuring students’ education continues despite the setback. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to support the rebuilding efforts and help restore the school to a safe and functional learning environment.
