All 10 inmates escape Batangas Provincial Jail
MANILA, Philippines — Authorities have successfully captured all 10 inmates who escaped from Batangas Provincial Jail. The police confirmed the rearrest of the tenth and final escapee on Tuesday, ending the brief but tense manhunt.
The inmates broke out around 10 a.m. on Monday when one prisoner threatened a guard with an ice pick, seized his service firearm, and fled to Barangay Quilo in Ibaan town. This escape triggered an immediate search operation by local authorities.
Rapid pursuit leads to multiple arrests
Within half an hour, three escapees were caught in the same barangay. Later that afternoon, five more prisoners were arrested aboard a bus in Santo Tomas City around 1:30 p.m. One additional inmate was detained in Barangay Salaban I at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The final fugitive was found in Barangay Santa Maria, Bauan town, by 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to a report from the Batangas Provincial Police Office. “Strategic planning, including hot pursuit and surveillance at the escapee’s residence, combined with drone assistance, pinpointed his location leading to his capture,” the report stated.
Authorities respond and investigate escape
Following the incident, Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto immediately ordered a comprehensive investigation into how the inmates escaped. Local leaders emphasized the importance of preventing similar incidents in the future.
The swift actions of law enforcement demonstrated effective coordination and resource use to quickly restore order. Meanwhile, the community expressed relief as all escapees were now back in custody.
