Angeles City voters elect candidates from opposing parties in local posts
In Angeles City, Pampanga, voters chose leaders from different political groups for the city’s top positions. Outgoing First District Representative Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II of Lakas-CMD won the mayoral race, while Amos Rivera from the People’s Reform Party (PRP) secured the vice mayor’s seat.
Lazatin received 98,164 votes, defeating his opponent Oscar Albayalde of PRP, who garnered 58,953 votes. Meanwhile, Rivera edged out the incumbent Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting of Lakas-CMD, with 79,866 votes to her 72,315.

Adding to the political shift, Lazatin’s brother, Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., the current mayor, will soon take office as a House Representative after running unopposed in the recent midterm elections.
Expressing his gratitude for the support, Lazatin said, “Una sa lahat, nagpapasalamat ako sa Diyos… sa aking pamilya… at sa lahat ng mga sumuporta, nagtiwala, at nagdasal para sa amin. Hindi ito pagkapanalo ni Jon Lazatin lamang—ito ay simbolo ng bago nating pagsasamahan… para sa mas maganda, mas maunlad, at mas mapayapang Ciudad ng Angeles.”
He also extended thanks to his opponents and their supporters, noting that the election strengthened their shared commitment to the city’s future.
