Engaging Elementary Science and Math Learning
Elementary students now have an exciting new way to learn science and math through an animated educational series called RadyoEskwela sa Siyensya. This initiative, launched by the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), aims to make STEM subjects more accessible and enjoyable for young learners.
With distance learning becoming more common, creative methods to teach science, technology, engineering, and math are essential. RadyoEskwela sa Siyensya offers a story-driven, animated approach designed to simplify complex science and math topics for elementary students.
Free Animated STEM Modules for Elementary Students
Originally developed as a radio learning program, RadyoEskwela sa Siyensya has transformed into an animated video series geared toward early, primary, and intermediate grades. These free modules cover science and math lessons and can be easily accessed through nulab’s Facebook page. This accessibility benefits students, parents, and educators alike.
The series stars two lively animated characters, Kaikai and Bart, who guide viewers through fun adventures filled with science experiments and intriguing STEM concepts.
Topics Covered in RadyoEskwela Episodes
The show currently features 15 episodes addressing key topics. Math lessons include financial literacy, ratios and rates, as well as area and volume calculations. On the science side, episodes cover physical and life sciences such as plant propagation, chemistry and colors, vaccines, vitamins, and minerals. Earth science topics like density, solar eclipses, earthquakes, and volcanoes are also explored.
Additionally, some episodes incorporate Filipino culture and local themes, including titles like Bakit Blue ang Langit?, Gagambahay, and Kiwot Bees. These culturally relevant stories enrich student understanding and help connect STEM learning to everyday life.
Making STEM Education Accessible and Fun
According to sources familiar with the matter, RadyoEskwela embodies the goal of making science and math education inclusive, engaging, and easy to reach for Filipino students. By converting radio content into animation, the program offers a more immersive learning experience that encourages curiosity in STEM fields among young learners.
Additional Resources for High School Students
Apart from RadyoEskwela, DOST-SEI also provides TuklaSiyensya, a program targeting high school students. TuklaSiyensya simplifies complex STEM topics through animated explainers and demonstrations led by scientists. Its first season includes 15 episodes and offers follow-up activities to reinforce the lessons.
