Authorities Confiscate P3.4 Million Shabu in Taraka Buy-Bust
Government anti-narcotics agents successfully seized approximately P3.4 million worth of shabu during a buy-bust operation on May 23 in Taraka, Lanao del Sur. This effort targeted a high-value drug suspect, marking a significant development in the ongoing fight against illegal drugs.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the operation focused on a suspect known by the aliases “Tammy” or “Macar,” who was apprehended in Barangay Sundig after thorough surveillance revealed his involvement in illicit drug activities.
Details of the Arrest and Confiscated Items
The authorities recovered nearly 500 grams of shabu, cleverly concealed inside a torn transparent plastic bag marked with the label “585.” Alongside the drugs, they also seized buy-bust money, a mobile phone, a wallet, and several identification cards.
The 53-year-old suspect is currently detained at the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) jail facility. He faces charges under Republic Act 9165, which governs the illegal drug trade in the Philippines.
Collaborative Effort Among Law Enforcement Agencies
This successful operation was a coordinated effort involving the provincial office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Lanao del Sur, the 45th Special Action Company of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF), the 4th Special Action Battalion, the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company, and the Taraka Municipal Police Station.
Local experts note that such cooperation among various law enforcement units strengthens the campaign against illegal drugs and helps dismantle complex drug networks operating in the region.
Impact on Regional Anti-Drug Campaign
The seizure of shabu valued at over P3 million highlights the persistent challenges faced by authorities in combating drug trafficking in Mindanao. Despite ongoing efforts, drug syndicates continue to operate, requiring sustained vigilance and coordinated action.
Community leaders said, “This arrest sends a strong message to those involved in illegal drug activities that law enforcement agencies are relentless in their pursuit.”
