Massive Shabu Seizure by Anti-Narcotics Operatives
Anti-narcotics operatives successfully seized over P75 million worth of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as “shabu,” concealed inside a water chiller within a parcel. This significant bust highlights ongoing efforts to curb illegal drug trafficking in the country.
Officials reported that the discovery was made on August 26 in Cainta, Rizal, after the parcel was subjected to a thorough x-ray scan and K-9 inspection. The shipment, which originated from Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico, aroused suspicion during customs procedures.
Discovery and Inspection Process
Upon physical examination, customs agents uncovered a plastic cylinder containing the illegal substance hidden inside the chiller unit. Laboratory tests later confirmed the contents to be Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, classified as a dangerous drug under Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Local authorities emphasized that the detection was a result of careful inspection protocols combining technology and canine assistance, which proved effective in intercepting this shipment.
Legal Actions and Arrests
Following the seizure, a warrant of seizure and detention was issued against the shipment for breaching Sections 118 (g), 119 (d), and 1113, paragraph f, i, and l (3 and 4) of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. This legal move aims to ensure accountability and prevent further distribution of illegal drugs.
Community members said that two unidentified male claimants, aged 52 and 54, were arrested on August 30 in connection with the shipment. They are now in custody under the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region III and will face charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Ongoing Efforts to Combat Illegal Drugs
Officials reported that this operation is part of a continuous campaign against illegal narcotics entering the Philippines. Authorities remain vigilant in monitoring incoming shipments to safeguard public health and security.
Residents expressed hope that such decisive actions will contribute to reducing drug-related crimes and protect communities nationwide.
