ANTIPOLO, Philippines — Chilling footage from a CCTV camera in Barangay Cupang captured the final moments of a shooting victim who was heard pleading for his life shortly before he was gunned down in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
According to a report by Mark Salazar on GMA’s “24 Oras”, the area where the shooting took place is the same location where seven bakery workers were previously killed in a separate, tragic incident—raising renewed concerns about safety and violence in the community.
The footage, taken at around 2 a.m., shows four men walking through a dark street. The voice of the victim can be heard pleading. Moments later, three gunshots ring out. The video then shows three men fleeing the scene.
Residents who heard the shots said they were too afraid to intervene, fearing retaliation.
“I asked him to go with me to the barangay, but he refused. Then they started running. Someone was dead. We were terrified,” said one witness.
By morning, the victim’s lifeless body was discovered in a nearby canal. A local resident recounted the shocking moment he stumbled upon the scene.
“I thought someone had just passed out. But when I flashed my light on his face, it was shattered. I ran straight to the barangay. He’s not from here.”
Later in the day, a concerned father reported to the barangay hall, fearing the body might be his missing 17-year-old son. However, he said the victim’s clothing didn’t match his son’s.
“His phone is off now, but he was active four hours ago. We’re here to clarify because he hasn’t come home yet,” the father said.
Authorities have yet to identify the victim and continue to investigate the shooting, which has shaken a community still reeling from past violence.
