Antique Government Center Construction Progress
ILOILO CITY – The construction of the Antique government center is now 55 percent complete, local engineers reported to Governor Rhodora “Dodod” Cadiao. This government center construction marks a major upgrade for the province, set to replace the current 60-year-old provincial capitol.
Currently situated on a sprawling 6.4-hectare lot in San Jose de Buenavista, the new Antique government center will house the provincial capitol, designed to meet modern standards and accommodate future needs.
Ongoing Work and Delays
Among the accomplished tasks are the installation of reinforcing bars on the ground floor and roof deck, which prepares the structure for cement pouring. However, heavy rains have delayed the timeline, pushing the expected completion from September to December.
The provincial engineer’s office cautioned that further delays are possible if heavy rainfall continues over the next five months. Despite these challenges, the team remains committed to advancing the project efficiently.
Significance and Future Outlook
This project will be the last major undertaking during Governor Cadiao’s administration, who has served three consecutive terms. She recently lost her congressional bid, making this government center a legacy project under her leadership.
The existing Antique provincial capitol was built in 1957 during the tenure of Governor Josue Cadiao, her father. The new center aims to provide a safer, more functional space for provincial government operations.
Local leaders noted the importance of this development in improving public services and boosting pride among the Antiqueños.
