Arnolfo Teves Jr. to Leave Hospital Tuesday
MANILA, Philippines — Detained former Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. is expected to be discharged from the hospital on Tuesday, according to his legal team. His lawyer confirmed that Teves has received clearance to leave the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) by lunchtime.
Despite still experiencing some abdominal discomfort, Teves welcomes his discharge and looks forward to returning to his cell at Annex 2 of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). His lawyer noted this move aims to silence critics who claim Teves is faking illness to avoid facing legal responsibility.
Medical Watch to Continue at BJMP Annex 2
Teves will remain under close medical supervision at Annex 2 to monitor his health and ensure his well-being. The former congressman was initially hospitalized on June 17 due to stomach pains and was transferred to PGH the same day.
On June 18, he underwent an appendectomy, a surgery to remove the appendix. His medical condition has since improved enough to allow his discharge from the hospital.
Legal Proceedings and Charges Against Teves
Meanwhile, the arraignment scheduled for Monday, June 30, before the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 12 has been postponed to July 14. Teves faces numerous serious charges related to the 2023 Pamplona Massacre, where Governor Roel Degamo and nine others were killed.
The charges include 10 counts of murder, 14 counts of frustrated murder, and four counts of attempted murder under the Revised Penal Code. These allegations have made Teves a central figure in one of the country’s most high-profile cases.
