Artificial Intelligence Festival Ignites Innovation in Iloilo City

Artificial Intelligence Festival to Boost Iloilo Innovation

ILOILO CITY – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-6 is spearheading preparations for the highly anticipated Artificial Intelligence Festival in Iloilo City from August 11 to 13. This upcoming event, themed “Coding a Better Future: Responsible AI for Cities and Communities,” aims to promote the ethical and responsible use of AI technologies.

DOST-6 Regional Director Rowen Gelonga highlighted that the Artificial Intelligence Festival is a key initiative under the 2025-2030 AI Development Action Plan for Western Visayas, which was softly launched earlier this year. “Only Western Visayas has crafted an AI Action Plan focused on harnessing AI’s potential while addressing critical concerns,” local leaders noted.

Western Visayas Positions as AI Hub

DOST Assistant Regional Director Keithlyn Sarah Bernardino emphasized the festival’s role in establishing Western Visayas as a national AI hub. The event is organized in collaboration with local partners including the UMWAD Western Visayas Consortium, Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U), West Visayas State University (WVSU), and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Iloilo Chapter (PCCI-Iloilo).

The festival will feature four major segments: the AI Hackathon, AI Technical Conference, Sine AI, and AI Exhibits. These activities are designed to showcase AI’s potential across different sectors.

Fostering Innovation through AI Hackathon

According to Rayjand Gellamucho of UMWAD and ISAT U, the AI Hackathon offers a dynamic platform for developing innovative solutions powered by AI. It encourages participants to create technologies that address real-world challenges, blending creativity with technical expertise.

Creative Exploration with Sine AI

Dr. Maria Beth Concepcion from WVSU explained that Sine AI combines workshops and projects focused on integrating AI into filmmaking and other creative industries. This segment aims to expand how AI can transform artistic fields.

Showcasing Business Potential in AI Exhibits

Francis Gerona of PCCI Iloilo Chapter shared that the AI Exhibits will demonstrate practical uses of AI to enhance business operations. This hands-on display will help entrepreneurs understand how AI tools can boost efficiency and growth.

The Artificial Intelligence Festival in Iloilo City marks a significant step in embracing advanced technology responsibly. It highlights the region’s commitment to innovation while addressing ethical challenges in AI use.
