Businessman Atong Ang Accuses Former Staff of Extortion
Businessman Charlie Tiu Hay Ang, popularly known as Atong Ang, has accused two former employees of demanding P300 million from him. He warned that if he refused to pay, he and his family might be implicated in the disappearance of several sabungeros, or cockfighting enthusiasts. This serious allegation has surfaced in connection with the ongoing e-sabong abductions controversy.
The exact four word keyphrase “e-sabong abductions case” appears early as Ang faces these claims. The complaint was filed at the Mandaluyong Prosecutor’s Office, naming Julie A. Patidongan, alias Dondon, and Alan Bantiles, known as Brown, as the accused.
Background of the E-Sabong Abductions Case
Patidongan previously served as farm manager for Pitmasters, a group involved in the online cockfighting industry. In 2022, Patidongan and five others were linked to the disappearance of sabungeros at Manila Arena. This prompted a Senate inquiry and led to criminal charges against the accused.
Initially, Ang provided legal and financial support to those charged, but this assistance stopped in 2023 after the accused posted bail. Soon after, Ang learned of an alleged plan to kidnap him, extort money from his family, and potentially murder him. This information came from his security personnel, Rogelio Barican, who was reportedly approached by Patidongan and Bantiles to help execute the scheme.
Extortion Attempts and Escalating Threats
In 2025, the extortion demands began. Bantiles reportedly asked for P300 million to cover Patidongan’s separation pay, legal fees, and political campaign funds. Ang’s complaint affidavit quotes Bantiles making a veiled threat: if Ang refused, Patidongan might implicate him in the ongoing e-sabong abductions case.
By June 2025, Patidongan had signed a sworn statement with the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG). He also gave an interview on a major network under the alias “Totoy,” accusing Ang, his children, and other Pitmaster Alpha members of a criminal conspiracy connected to the missing sabungeros.
Ang Denies All Allegations
Ang firmly rejected all accusations, calling them “entirely false and without basis.” He expressed that these claims have caused irreparable damage to his reputation due to what he described as “trial by publicity” without any due process.
Currently, Ang is being represented by a legal counsel. Local sources noted that the case continues to unfold amid heightened public interest.
