Atty. Topacio’s Passion for Making Films Shines Bright

Atty. Topacio’s Love for Making Films

Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, a self-proclaimed cineaste, once again demonstrated his passion by producing the film “Spring in Prague.” At the film’s special red carpet premiere held last May 28 at Uptown Cinema in Bonifacio Global City, he shared the heartfelt reasons behind his commitment to making films despite the challenges faced by Filipino filmmakers.

“Seriously speaking, it’s a passion, an avocation and it’s my small way of giving back to the film industry that I love. Kasi bata pa lang ako mahilig na ako sa pelikula,” Atty. Topacio said. This deep love for cinema has been with him since childhood, fueling his dedication to the craft.

Building a Lasting Legacy Through Films

For Atty. Topacio, producing movies is more than just a hobby; it is a lifelong dream. “Pangarap ko talaga na sabi ko, bago ako mamatay makagawa man lang ng isang pelikula. Pangatlo ko na actually ito, and pakonti-konti lang naman hindi naman kailangan marami kasi at least nandiyan yan. It’s my legacy habang buhay nandiyan ang mga pelikula ko,” he explained.

He believes that even a few films can serve as a lasting legacy, preserving his passion and voice for years to come. His third film production reflects this commitment to meaningful storytelling and leaving something valuable behind.

Star Talent Shares Gratitude for Film Role

Paolo Gumabao, who portrays Alfonso in “Spring in Prague,” expressed pride and gratitude for participating in this project. “It’s such a good fortune to have Prague as my introduction to Europe. And I’m glad to do it for a film that bridges nations,” he shared.

Directed by Lester Dimaranan, the film also stars Sara Sandeva as Marie. Alfonso’s character falls in love with Marie while she is vacationing in the Philippines, setting the stage for a touching cross-cultural romance.

A Journey of the Heart and Political Reflection

What begins as a brief summer romance soon transforms into a deeper emotional journey. Alfonso travels all the way to Prague to discover whether their connection is more than just a holiday fling.

Atty. Topacio pointed out that the film carries a meaningful message about democracy versus dictatorship or communism. The release of “Spring in Prague” coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, adding historical significance.

Upcoming Projects and Global Premiere

The world premiere of “Spring in Prague” is set for September 5 at the ASEAN Filmfest in Prague. Meanwhile, Borracho Productions is gearing up for its next venture: a science fiction horror film exploring the dangers of artificial intelligence.

Through his dedication to making films, Atty. Topacio continues to contribute to the Filipino film industry and tell stories that resonate with audiences worldwide.
