Three Arrested for Selling Unlicensed Firearms in Parañaque
Authorities apprehended three suspects for allegedly selling unlicensed firearms in Parañaque City, sources said on Friday. This operation highlights ongoing efforts to curb illegal gun trade in the area.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) reported that the arrests followed an operation conducted last Wednesday at a mall located in Barangay Tambo. The three individuals were caught in the act of delivering and trading firearms without licenses.
Suspects Identified and Firearms Seized
Police identified the suspects as a businessman known as “James,” an electrical engineer named “Johnel,” and a dentist called “Rolyn.” Authorities seized five unlicensed firearms during the arrest: three caliber 5.56 Bushmaster rifles, one 9mm pistol, and one .22 caliber pistol.
According to CIDG, the suspects are believed to be involved in gunrunning and the illegal firearms trade operating within the National Capital Region. The swift action taken by law enforcement reflects the commitment to dismantling such illicit networks.
Legal Charges and Next Steps
The three individuals were charged before the National Prosecution Service for violating Republic Act 10591, known as the Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. This law strictly regulates the ownership, sale, and transfer of firearms in the Philippines.
Authorities continue to investigate the extent of the suspects’ activities and whether they are part of a larger illegal network. Community vigilance and cooperation remain vital in combating these illegal activities.
