Emergency Aid Reaches Families Hit by Baby Tornado in SGA
COTABATO CITY – The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) quickly delivered emergency aid to families affected by the baby tornado that struck the Special Geographic Area (SGA) late Sunday night.
Local officials confirmed that the baby tornado caused severe damage to the community. Mayor Abdullah Abas of Tugunan town reported early Wednesday that the storm destroyed at least 35 light-material houses owned by Maguindanaon residents. Additionally, a Madrasah and a public school suffered significant damage.
Strong Winds Tear Through Manaulanan Village
The violent winds, accompanied by heavy rain, swept through the farming village of Manaulanan, toppling homes and shanties. Residents believe the unusual weather was caused by a tornado, a violently spinning column of air often linked to intense downpours.
Despite the destruction, Mayor Abas assured the public, “No one was injured in the incident.” Local leaders and disaster response teams continue to assess the full extent of the damage.
Relief Efforts Underway for Affected Families
Representatives from the MSSD and the municipal disaster office have already begun distributing initial relief goods to those displaced by the storm. They remain on site to coordinate further assistance and evaluate the needs of the community.
The quick response aims to ease the hardship faced by residents whose homes and schools were damaged by the baby tornado in the SGA.
