Bacolod City Reports First Monkeypox Case
BACOLOD CITY – The City Health Office (CHO) announced the first monkeypox case in Bacolod City this June 15. The city government is closely monitoring the situation to prevent further spread of the virus.
Mayor Albee Benitez assured the public that the patient is stable and currently isolated while receiving proper medical care. The city has already begun contact tracing efforts to contain the disease effectively.
“I want to assure everyone that the city government has long prepared for situations like this. Mpox is a manageable disease, and with proper health protocols, we can prevent further spread,” the mayor said. He urged the community to stay informed by facts, not fear.
Coordinated Efforts for Swift Response
The CHO is working closely with the Department of Health, Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, and other agencies to ensure a prompt and coordinated response. Local leaders emphasized the importance of compassion, urging residents to avoid stigma and discrimination against patients and their families.
The public was reminded to stay calm, maintain hygiene, follow health protocols, and seek medical help if symptoms arise. Officials highlighted that vulnerable groups like pregnant women, children, seniors, the immunocompromised, and those with chronic illnesses should exercise extra caution.
Preventing Spread Through Vigilance and Unity
Mayor Benitez called on residents to avoid sharing unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic. He reassured the public that the city government is implementing all necessary health and safety measures to protect the community.
“Rest assured, your city government is taking all necessary steps to protect your health and safety. We have overcome challenges before and with unity and vigilance, we will do so again,” he said.
To strengthen prevention, the city plans to tighten border controls by installing scanners at Bredco Port and Bacolod-Silay Airport. This move responds to rising monkeypox cases in nearby Iloilo City.
