Public Alert on Monkeypox Cases in Western Visayas
Bacolod City officials have called on residents to stay alert and report any suspected monkeypox cases promptly to help prevent community spread. Although no confirmed monkeypox cases have been recorded in the city, health authorities emphasize the importance of vigilance following the first confirmed infections in nearby Iloilo City and Iloilo province.
Local health experts stress that early identification is crucial in containing the disease. “We can do testing by collecting samples and sending the specimen to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM),” said a city health official responsible for environmental sanitation.
City Health Office’s Preparedness and Surveillance Efforts
The City Health Office (CHO) is actively monitoring the situation and is backed by full support from the local government. Vaccine doses and medications have been allocated as preventive measures, and collaboration with the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management team is in place in case isolation facilities become necessary.
To educate the public, the CHO has issued advisories detailing what monkeypox is and what precautions to take. This initiative aims to raise awareness and foster community cooperation.
Continued Monitoring by Health Authorities
Health officials in the province and city remain watchful against emerging and re-emerging diseases. They continue their surveillance and monitoring activities across Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City.
Residents experiencing symptoms associated with monkeypox are urged to seek medical attention immediately. Authorities remind the public that prompt reporting and care are vital in managing potential cases and curbing transmission.
