Massive Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces Rally in Cotabato City
COTABATO CITY — Around 100,000 unarmed members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF), the military branch of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), gathered on September 6, 2025. The historic grand mosque here became the venue for this powerful display of solidarity and respect for MILF leaders.
Organizers explained that the rally was held to support the leadership of MILF-BIAF Chief of Staff and Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof “Sammy Gambar” Macacua, along with MILF Chairman Ahod “Kagi Murad” Ebrahim. Community members noted the presence of MILF base commanders from across Mindanao, emphasizing the widespread backing for their commanders.
Demonstrating Commitment to Peace and Unity
Officials reported that the peace rally was a clear demonstration of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces’ collective commitment to the peace agreement. It reaffirmed the unity and solidarity of the organization while rallying supporters and sympathizers to stand firmly behind their leaders.
“It also served as an opportunity to condemn and decry the forces of disunity that seek to undermine the gains of the peace process,” the BIAF-MILF statement said, highlighting the rally’s dual purpose of celebration and resistance against divisive elements.
Leaders Praise Loyalty and Resolve
Abdulraof Macacua, a key figure in the Bangsamoro struggle and top MILF leader, expressed deep appreciation for the unwavering loyalty of BIAF members. He thanked them for responding to the call for solidarity during this crucial period.
Macacua stressed that their continued unity not only honors the MILF’s chain of command but also fortifies the Bangsamoro people’s pursuit of peace, self-governance, and lasting stability. Local leaders noted his firm belief that the Bangsamoro will not waver in its commitment to sustaining the peace process gains through active and democratic engagement.
Preparing for a Peaceful Bangsamoro Parliamentary Election
The BIAF further reaffirmed their dedication to peaceful, orderly, and honest conduct in the upcoming first-ever Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections scheduled for next month. This event is a pivotal part of the MILF’s transformation from an armed group to a political entity.
Macacua emphasized, “This transformation is not only about putting weapons beyond use but also about embracing their roles as responsible citizens and voters dedicated to safeguarding the integrity of the elections.” Officials highlighted that this shift marks a significant milestone in the Bangsamoro journey toward self-determination.
