Government Commits to Bangsamoro Parliamentary Election Success
ILIGAN CITY – Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr. warmly welcomed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s recent declaration to guarantee the full success of the Bangsamoro parliamentary election this October. This pledge reflects a firm government commitment to the Bangsamoro parliamentary election and the peace process.
To strengthen focus, the President plans to sign a law postponing the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections until next year. This move allows the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and security forces to concentrate exclusively on the Bangsamoro region, ensuring smooth and secure preparations.
“The President’s statement is a powerful affirmation of our shared commitment to the Bangsamoro peace process,” Galvez said. “It sends a clear message that the national government will not falter in ensuring that the Bangsamoro people can finally exercise their right to elect their own leaders and chart their own destiny.”
Significance of the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Election
Galvez stressed the critical importance of the upcoming Bangsamoro parliamentary election, calling it the culmination of the Political Track under the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), the landmark 2014 peace deal between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
“If that election fails, that will be a big failure in the peace process, that’s why the BARMM elections need to be successful,” the President emphasized.
“The first-ever parliamentary elections in the BARMM represent a monumental achievement and a true milestone in our peace journey,” Galvez added. “This historic event fulfills our promise to transition the Bangsamoro government from an appointive body to one truly representative of its people. The Bangsamoro will elect their leaders and hold them accountable.”
The regional polls are scheduled for October 13, 2025, as mandated by Republic Act No. 12123, signed earlier this year by President Marcos.
Preparation and Media Involvement
In preparation, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), along with COMELEC, the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS), and the BARMM Information Office, will launch a series of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns targeted at journalists throughout Mindanao.
These efforts aim to deepen journalists’ understanding of the peace process, the complexities of the first parliamentary elections, and necessary safety protocols while covering the event.
“Journalists play a crucial role in nation-building and shaping public discourse. It is vital that they are well-equipped to provide accurate, balanced, and in-depth reporting on this historic election,” Galvez stated.
“Through our IEC campaign, we aim to enhance their knowledge and reinforce the importance of media safety, especially in sensitive areas. We are fully committed to protecting the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring the safety of those who report on it,” he concluded.
