Barangay Captain Gunned Down in Camarines Sur
LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – A barangay captain in Pili town, Camarines Sur, was shot dead Thursday morning, June 5. The tragic event unfolded as the victim sat inside a local meat shop.
Police Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office-5 (Bicol region), identified the slain official as Nerio Brazal of Barangay San Juan. Sources said two men wearing bonnets rode a motorcycle to the location and opened fire on Brazal.
He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died instantly. The suspects quickly fled the scene, prompting authorities to launch a pursuit operation and a thorough follow-up investigation.
Ongoing Police Investigation and Search
Police Chief Col. Virgilio Olalia Jr. of Camarines Sur reported that investigators are gathering closed-circuit television footage and locating witnesses to help identify the gunmen. The police remain vigilant in tracking down those responsible for the killing.
Police Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon, head of PRO-5, expressed deep condolences to the victim’s family. He emphasized the commitment of law enforcement to swiftly deliver justice and restore peace in the community.
“The Police Regional Office-5, headed by Police Brig. Gen. Andre P. Dizon, extends its deepest condolences and sincere sympathies to the bereaved family of the victim,” Dizon said. “We acknowledge the severity of this loss and its profound impact on the local community. We assure the public that all necessary actions are being taken to resolve this case swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
He urged the public to stay vigilant and cooperate by providing any information that could aid the investigation. “Justice will be pursued with urgency, integrity, and resolve,” he added.
