SARIAYA, Quezon – A tragic shooting involving a barangay chairman and the son of a barangay tanod unfolded on the night of May 19 in Barangay Gibanga. The incident resulted in the death of 34-year-old Albert Malarasta.
Authorities said the barangay chairman fired at Albert, who was walking behind his father, a barangay tanod named Elpidio, and Anderson Mabuhay, the chief tanod. They had gone to the suspect’s home to investigate reports of a possible break-in by unknown individuals.

Albert was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by his father but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The suspect was taken into custody, and police recovered a Glock 19 Generation 5 9mm pistol with an extended magazine containing 15 bullets.
