Barangay Kagawad Arrested in Lanao del Norte
Authorities arrested an incumbent barangay kagawad and another man for allegedly possessing 500 grams of suspected shabu (crystal meth) in Lanao del Norte. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) reported the incident following a buy-bust operation conducted Tuesday night in Barangay Poblacion, Kapatagan.
The operation uncovered four transparent plastic sachets tied in knots, containing the suspected illegal drugs in varying sizes. Both suspects were identified as Nomairie, 41, a sitting barangay kagawad, and Al Hariki, 32. They are residents of Barangay Mamaanon in Salvador town, within the same province.
Details of the Buy-Bust Operation and Charges
While PDEA confirmed the suspects’ residence, officials did not disclose the specific barangay where the kagawad currently serves. The suspects will face charges under Republic Act 9165, also known as the Dangerous Drugs Act, according to sources familiar with the case.
This arrest highlights ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug activities in Lanao del Norte, a province where authorities continue to intensify enforcement operations to prevent the spread of narcotics.
