Barangay Officials Sought for Killing Siberian Husky in Batangas

CUENCA, Batangas – Authorities are actively searching for a barangay chairman and two barangay tanods in connection with the killing of a Siberian Husky at the barangay dog pound in Barangay Bungahan. The incident occurred on the night of Saturday, May 17.

According to reports from community leaders, the suspects include Elmer, 50, the barangay chairman, along with two tanods named Rodolfo and Edison. The four-word keyphrase “barangay officials sought for killing” is central to this ongoing investigation.

Details of the Incident

Investigations reveal that the Siberian Husky initially escaped from its cage and entered Elmer’s residence where it bit one of his roosters. Witnesses say Elmer reacted by striking the dog with a wooden stick to make it release the rooster. Afterward, he instructed the tanods to take the injured dog back to the barangay dog pound for safekeeping.

Later, the tanods informed the dog’s owner, Alma, 42, that the animal had died and advised her to claim the body. Concerned, Alma reported the case to the police and brought the dog to a local veterinarian for examination.

Veterinary Findings and Legal Action

The veterinarian’s report indicated the dog died from blunt trauma to the left side of the head, specifically around the eye area. This trauma caused severe bleeding and dislocation of the eyeball. The multiple injuries confirmed that the dog was hit repeatedly with a hard object.

Police are preparing to file charges against Elmer for violating Republic Act 10631, also known as the Philippine Animal Welfare Act of 2013. Sources familiar with the matter emphasized that holding barangay officials accountable for animal cruelty is crucial in upholding community standards and laws.

Community Response and Ongoing Investigation

Local experts and community members express concern over the incident, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement of animal welfare laws. The search for the barangay chairman and tanods continues as authorities gather more evidence.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting animals and ensuring that those in public service act responsibly. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
