Batangas Province on Blue Alert Status Amid Crising
The Batangas provincial government has raised the alert level to blue alert status in response to the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, and Tropical Storm Crising. This measure aims to ensure close monitoring and efficient coordination as the weather system affects the region.
According to local officials, the decision to place Batangas on blue alert was based on advisories from the Philippine weather agency regarding the effects of the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Cyclone Crising. The provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has activated its emergency operations center and response teams under the Bravo Protocol, also called Oplan Listo.
Understanding Blue Alert Status and Oplan Listo
Blue alert status requires all disaster management personnel and equipment to be on standby, ready to act if the situation worsens. The activation of Oplan Listo, a disaster preparedness program by the Department of the Interior and Local Government, helps local government units prepare for and respond effectively to typhoons and similar emergencies.
Tracking Tropical Storm Crising
Tropical Storm Crising, internationally named Wipha, was last located 125 kilometers west-northwest of Calayan, Cagayan. Meteorological sources reported that the storm is expected to intensify into a severe tropical storm before it exits the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday afternoon.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to safeguard residents and minimize potential damage. Meanwhile, local leaders urge the public to stay alert and follow official instructions.
