Bishops to Convene in Bohol for Annual CBCP Retreat
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Over 80 bishops from across the Philippines are set to convene in Bohol province next week for the 130th Annual Retreat and Plenary Assembly of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). This significant gathering highlights the importance of the bishops’ annual meeting in a new location, marking a historic moment for the Church.
Fr. Heraldin Laniba, chancellor of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, shared that the preparations are being led by the Dioceses of Tagbilaran and Talibon, under the guidance of Bishops Alberto Uy and Patrick Daniel Parcon. The event will bring together about 170 delegates, including bishops, clergy, religious men and women, lay leaders, and representatives from various sectors, from June 30 to July 4, 2025.
Historic First CBCP Retreat in Bohol
CBCP President Pablo Virgilio Cardinal David of Caloocan will preside over the assembly. Bishop Uy emphasized the significance of the event, saying, “This is a historic event as it’s the first time the CBCP will hold both its retreat and plenary assembly here in Bohol.” The bishops will use this opportunity not only for spiritual renewal but also for broad consultation, especially to advance the Church’s synodal journey.
“Moral and pastoral concerns will also be addressed during the meeting,” Uy added. The retreat will take place in Tagbilaran City, while the plenary assembly will be held in Anda town. Uy highlighted that the gathering offers bishops ample time for reflection and prayer, as well as a platform to discuss pressing issues affecting the Church and its communities.
Focus on Spiritual Growth and Church Issues
Local leaders noted that the retreat and assembly will serve as a venue for discussing important pastoral matters while strengthening the Church’s mission. The event aims to deepen the bishops’ spiritual lives and foster unity amid challenges facing their congregations.
