Bising, Habagat Affect Over 13,000 People Nationwide
More than 13,000 Filipinos have been impacted by the combined effects of Typhoon Bising (international name: Danas) and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, according to the latest report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The NDRRMC detailed that a total of 3,773 families, or 13,006 individuals, across 14 barangays have felt the severe weather’s impact. Of these, 18 people from four families are currently staying in evacuation centers, while around 3,000 individuals from 1,016 families have received aid while remaining in their homes.
Flooding and Landslides Reported
Floodwaters have submerged 25 areas in Central Luzon, disrupting daily life and mobility. Meanwhile, a rain-triggered landslide was recorded in the mountainous Cordillera Administrative Region, posing additional risks to residents in the area.
The adverse weather also disrupted utilities, with power lines affected in five cities and municipalities, complicating recovery efforts.
Government Response and Weather Updates
Authorities have distributed assistance valued at over ₱183,000 to help affected communities cope with the damage. Local officials continue monitoring the situation closely to ensure timely support and safety.
Earlier reports from the state weather bureau confirmed that Typhoon Bising intensified outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility and is not expected to directly hit the country. However, its associated clouds brought rainfall to northern regions, including Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.
A gale warning was issued for Batanes due to Bising’s trough extension, signaling strong winds and rough seas. At the same time, the habagat continues to bring widespread rains across most parts of the Philippines, keeping residents vigilant.
Filipinos are urged to stay alert to weather advisories and safety protocols as agencies coordinate relief and preventive measures.
